Build a useful pen and paper test page
Choose a sheet from the notebook you plan to use. Write the date, the paper name if known and the name of each pen beside its sample. Use the same short sentence for every pen so differences are easier to compare.
Add a few slow lines, quick loops and a small shaded square. Let the ink dry before touching the page. Look for feathering around letters and check the reverse for show-through or ink that has passed through the sheet.
Repeat a favorite combination during an ordinary writing session. A smooth sample is useful, but comfort over a full page and legibility at your natural writing speed matter too. Keep the test page near the front of the notebook for reference.
